New Trend in Trend!

Google Buzz

Wanted to pass this along….

Recently I’ve been noticing a trend in my Trend Micro software – or rather, I’ve been noticing Trend’s behavior on websites!

You may remember some time back we posted several articles and a report  about mal-ads. Specifically, DNS Poisoning & Mal-ads, Botupdate, and A Possible Answer to the RUBotted Pop-up.

I also predicted that we were in for some serious activity like we have NOT seen to date that would be a blended threat using ads to deliver the goods in, my predictions for the year that:

There will be a IWMD (Internet Weapon of Mass Destruction) launched sometime during this year. It will be considered a mashup blended threat because it will take advantage of the security flaws in a multitude of web apps and will propagate through ad servers.

Well, although the security vendors haven’t come out and publicly acknowledged it, I must have been on to something back then!

Over the past few weeks, while doing my morning game playing and surfing before I get ready for work, I noticed the following on the website where I read my horoscope every morning – Tarot.com

Trend Micro Blocking Ad

Trend Micro Blocking Ad

If you click on the image you can see the larger version, but the area where I circled in the upper right side is where Trend very noticeably blocked the ad!

I see this across several pages where the same type ad appears throughout the site, which is heavily loaded with flash ads.

So kudo’s to Trend Micro in taking the initiative to protect us! And maybe I need to rethink this whole Internet weapon of mass destruction thing?

Well, maybe not!
